Cagle's growth would not have been possible if the company hadn't learned early to harness the entrepreneurial spirit of its contractor-farmers. These independent businessmen play an irreplaceable part in two of the most important steps in the production of Cagle's chickens.
First, contractor-farmers care for Cagle's breeding flock, keeping egg production high and reliable. They run the breeder farms that produce more than 2.6 million eggs for Cagle's hatchery each week.
After the chicks are hatched, we again rely on contractor-farmers during the growing-out phase. The company furnishes the chicks, feed, technical assistance and any medications needed. The independent contractor-farmers furnish facilities, labor, and the special care needed to produce a superior bird.
Through contractor-farmers, Cagle's is able to provide a powerful entrepreneurial incentive for more efficient production and higher quality.
